Thank you for sharing both your enormous loss and perspective on moving forward. “Get to” is such a huge paradigm shift from “have to”.
My respect and admiration for you and Susan has grown knowing that you were dealing with this in the background while showing amazing support and professionalism toward the retailers in this group every day. Alz is a cruel, heartless disease. I’m sorry for your loss.
Thank you, Bob. Just exactly what I needed to hear. We have been in business since 1974. We have had up to 4 locations in our 47 years. We have now down sized to 1 location. That is out retirement🤣. Many days I have said I have got to go to work; this is so special at this time “I get to go to work”!
Thank you, Bob, for another excellent lesson. I’m so sorry to hear of your family’s enormous and difficult loss. I know how hard it is. I will be holding you all in my heart while you find your new normal.
Muddling and then making a decision to find the perspective that lets us do all that we love to do, including meeting our obligations, is essential in business as much as in daily life, and I love the way you expressed this.
To me, muddling is part of the process that allows us to incorporate our losses into our new identity (that is, us without them), of accepting the reality and weaving it into the complicated fabric of our lives. Muddling is the opposite of wallowing.
I don’t believe in “moving on” because that suggests forgetting, and we never do forget. We honor our loved ones with our memory of them, and we respect them by living the whole and beautiful life they would wish for us.

Thanks Bob. “Have to” versus “get to” is such a great shift in thinking. Jill and Greg
