This Episode: Critical Advice For The Holidays
In this episode of Real Retail TV, I’m going to share with you what I think might be the most important thing for you to do this holiday season.
I’d love to hear what you’re going to do to make sure that you’re ready and have the energy to make it through the 4th quarter. Please tell me in the comments section below.
Thanks Bob. This is priceless advise 🙂 We did it this weekend. I let my employees take care of the store and one of them did not show for work so my store stayed closed, but my heart is full for the time I was able to spend with my love ones and like you said get my tank filled.
Thanks a million 🙂
Jennifer,
You’re welcome and nice work! I’m glad you took the time!
Bob
So true! Thanks for your thoughts, Bob. We have managed to get through this situation with hard work and constant adaptation. The workload and stress has felt like the holiday season since March or worse. We have held our regular hours throughout with adjustments and added services, like curbside and home delivery. When all you can do is work and think of the work that still needs to be done and just feel no joy, recharging needs to be part of the plan! Life is short.
Yes Cyndi, Life is too short to not enjoy all of it we can!
Bob
These snipets from you are just what we need. Thanks for the reminder. Spending time with our grandchildren is the best escape for us and we plan on doing that as much as possible. It’s not “restful” but it sure is fulfilling. Takes your mind away from the troubles and gets us to look at life thru a child’s eye. It’s really a beautiful place.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful insights Julie! But get some rest too (:
Bob
Spot on, thank you.
There is no catching up on sleep. I try to get and get good rest every day. We don’t know how long this road is so just worry about today.
Good point Trish!
Bob
Thanks Bob! My getting away is going to watch my son play college bball😊Praying they allow fans. He has a few games coming up in October that will get us away. Such great advice!
Thank you, Bob! That message came at just the right moment. I am so exhausted I literally got dressed to go to work but decided to stop and relax for one hour before I had to be in but I know I need more than that. These are definitely unprecedented times. I can’t wait until we’re on the other side of this.
Nan,
Please find the time to rest. Being exhausted doesn’t serve anyone. Everyone needs you at your best come November!
Bob
I love the fact that your son plays ball! But I would not wait until his games to get some rest (:
Bob
Thanks, Bob! You’re right (as usual), these are tough times, and your confirmation of this, plus encouragement to rest and be ready, helps. It surprised me how much that meant to me. I didn’t think I needed your acknowledgement, nor permission to take a break, but maybe I did! Suddenly I’m letting myself notice how beat I am without feeling like a light-weight. This will help me do what I need to do to avoid burning out.
The pandemic will end eventually, but with the uptick in cases this past week, and fall coming with new viruses, I don’t think we will be back to regular open hours (or anything else) any time soon. Gotta hang in there, and rest and fellowship will help.
Good luck to all my fellow indie retailers. Looking forward to hearing stories of triumph!
Thanks for your comment Kate. Make sure you rest up and I’m sure you’ll be one of the stories of triumph!
Bob
