This Episode: 4 Reasons I’m Bullish On The Future of Independent Retail
In this episode of Real Retail TV, I’m going to share four reasons why I think the future of independent retail has never been brighter. Watch it now!
What do you think… Is your future looking brighter? Let me know in the comments section below.
I have seen so much support for our local independents, that I have to believe that you are right about the pandemic driving home the ‘shop local’ sentiment like nothing else ever could. I think that my little town offers the best hope for the survival of my small businesses. In just the few days since we unlocked our doors, we are running at about 50% of what we normally do this time of year. Which is amazing considering the fact that we are not doing many of the things that we normally do. There are no gatherings that are traditionally the things that prompt a visit to my store, so I am hopeful that we will be coming out of this stronger than we entered it. I’m getting a crash course in social media and building relationships, and this can only help as we move forward in this new retail environment.
Yes I expect to succeed however we are a seasonal tourist town in Ontario. We have missed the start of our season and not sure when customers will be back. Not sure that I want to hang in until next year to thrive again.
Bob, I totally agree with you. I am a new floral/retail shop of 1.5 years. I have been just as busy in March and April as I was in Nov and Dec. People are reaching out with flowers and balloons. People are being kinder. I live 16 miles from South Dakotas largest city, and most everyone in our community works in Sioux Falls. I have had 2 people in the last week comment that they do not want to shop in Sioux Falls. some of it is fear, and I understand their fear. I use facebook daily and I try to be positive and let them know we are here for them. Thank you for making me think, I am doing the right thing. BTW, I never closed, I shortened my hours and stayed busy…..interesting times and I am proud of what I have accomplished for my community. Thank you for your positive energy and comments.
Thank you! That’s exactly the encouragement I needed to re-open the shop on Friday.
Question, what camera or phone are you using for your video? I’m envious of your video clarity.
Thank you again!
“Acceleration of success and failure” Yes — this is so good. We are feeling this. Excellence requires us to look even more carefully about how we operate, what we sell and how we create the customer experience. We are here and ready to do it and people are responding!
