This Episode: The #1 Thing To Drive Success In 2023
In today’s episode of Real Retail TV, I share what I believe to be the most important thing to drive your success in 2023. What you think determines what you do. When you think the right things, you do the right things. That will lead you to get the results you deserve, and you deserve to have a fantastic year. When you’re making important decisions, pause and think about where that decision is coming from. Are you making that decision out of fear or courage?
Do you agree with me? Disagree? I would love to hear about it in the comments.
P.S. If you haven’t registered for the Marketing Mentor Program, I would like to encourage you to make a courageous decision to join me from January 17-20. Click the button below to learn more.
Love listening to your mentorship. Really comes from the mind, the heart & soul. Appreciate you and wish us all a successful 2023!
Hello, thanks for this video! Although I do not have the funds to invest in your programs, I will continue to listen here. I am definitely investing in my time. I sit in my store every day with no sales. No foot traffic. Open for about six months but the location stinks. I’m on the second floor of a building with no store front, however I am on Main Street, which is where many tourists visit. I have invested in the past in other programs, and things are moving very slow. I’m hanging on by a thread. Losing over $1,000/mo in rent, utilities. My husband wants me to close, but I am not ready to fail yet. Thanks for the videos. You are truly an inspiration to me and I will continue to watch your videos.
Hi Michelle. Thanks for your comment. The best way I can reply is by sharing the text of an old Tip of the Week…Tip # 548 – Pounding the Pavement
Pound the pavement. Lay down some shoe leather. Get out of your store and put something in the hand of your top prospects and past customers. In other words…
HUSTLE.
Of course, if you deliver products or perform in-home services a door hanger like this one to leave on all nearby doors is a great idea.
But you don’t have to use a fancy die-cut door hanger or do deliveries to put this tactic to work in your business. You could hand out flyers or brochures. One of my favorite “pounding the pavement” ideas uses the tried and true gift certificate give away.
Grab a stack of your marketing gift certificates, pick a target, and start walking.
Whether it’s a door hanger, a gift certificate or a flyer you’ll want to keep these things in mind…
Pick the Right Target
Start by walking your downtown street and giving away gift certificates to other local business owners. These folks will almost always be receptive to your marketing efforts and come into your store and give you a try.
If your primary target is women, try handing them out to teachers at the local schools. Or to nurses in local doctors offices. If your target is pet owners, hang out at the local dog park.
You might have a geographic target – a specific neighborhood or a particular office building – that is right for you.
Give a Great Impression
Although it doesn’t have to be a slick, high-produced piece like this door hanger, you do want your gift certificate to give a great impression of your store.
You can design one yourself by customizing a template from the internet. Or you can have a graphic designer create a template just for your store. If you have a designer do it, make sure you can customize the amount and the text on the certificate “on the fly.”
That way all you have to do is decide the amount and then print up as many as you need, whenever you need them – three to a sheet of printer paper is my favorite. Super cheap, super easy.
Make it Personal
When you give these gift certificates or flyers away, think of it as a personal invitation from you to the person you are handing it to. Best of all, talk to your intended target in person, shake their hand, and invite them to check out your store. Or write a personal note on each one. Maybe use the back side of the gift certificate.
At the least, you can sign your name on it like Sharlene did. You may not be a hair bow and smiley face type, but it does give the piece a personal feel and reveals a bit of her personality. You may have a different way to make your piece feel personal.
If you are hiring someone to go out and pound the pavement for you (it can be a great job for teens and college students, by the way) this bit of personalization can mean a lot.
Include a Call to Action
Don’t assume the person getting the gift certificate knows what to do. Include a call to action that specifically TELLS them what you want them to do. “You’re invited to spend this $10 any way you want. Come to the store today!”
The painter’s door hanger has two calls to action: “Schedule your in-home estimate online” and “Call today!”
Don’t Forget Contact & Community Information
Be sure you’ve got all your important contact information on the gift certificate: store name, address, phone number, email, and web address.
Also give them a way to connect with your community even if they don’t use their gift certificate right away. Include your Facebook page, Twitter handle, Pinterest page, YouTube channel, or whatever other social media outlets you use.
Bottom line… This is one of the fastest, cheapest, most effective marketing tactics around. If you want to drum up some business in a hurry start pounding the pavement!
